Why keeping ourselves in the game is useful for our Supported Self Management Plan?
The other week I was watching an American Football game and the score was 33–2 in the third quarter.
One of the Coaches from the losing team saw many of the players on the bench with their heads down. He told the players on the bench to stop looking at the scoreboard, lift up their heads and get themselves back in the game. They did and went on to win the game.
Keeping ourselves in the game is very important for our Supported Self Management Plan because it helps us stay active and involved in our health.
When we participate in our own care, we learn more about our body and what it needs. This knowledge can help us make better choices, like remembering to pace our daily activities, eating healthier foods and staying active, which can improve our overall well-being.
Being engaged also helps us feel more in control of our health. When we take a part in planning our supported self management programme, we build confidence. We can set achievable goals and track our progress, which can feel really rewarding. The more we see ourselves making positive changes, the more motivated we become to keep going!
Finally, staying in the game allows us to work closely with our healthcare team. By communicating openly with doctors, nurses, or support groups, we can share our experiences and get ideas and support. This teamwork helps us understand our plan better and find support when we need it.
Overall, being an active participant is key to successfully managing our health and feeling good about ourselves!
