Persistent Pain?
Over 14million people live with persistent pain and of those almost one in four said pain had kept them from usual activities (including work) on at least 14 days in the last three months.
Being less active?
When we become less active, our joints stiffen and we can gain weight.
Fitness; weak muscles and joints?
Weak or under-used muscles/joints can feel more pain. Keeping active can help to reduce your pain.
Create a ‘no go’ list of things you cannot do.
It’s common to have list of things to avoid, in case doing it increases your pain. We need to begin to write a can do list.
Sleep problems; Tiredness and fatigue?
Sleep problems is one of the most common symptoms. Avoid napping during the day.
Stress, fear, anxiety, frustration or anger?
These feelings or emotions are really common, so you're not on your own
Medication side effects
Medication side effects are common, and best to discuss any with your GP or Pharmacist.
Weight gain or loss?
When we become less active because we worry about increasing our pain, it's common for our weight to increase. It’s really important to tell our GP if we begin to lose weight.
Thinking, fear of the future, depression?
Negative thinking etc. is common and worrying/fearing the future can cause depression/low mood. Its always best to talk about them to friends, family or your GP. This video link is useful if you have depression. It gives a good explanation of it, and what you can do about it.
Work, money worries, relationship problems?
Time away from work is not uncommon. It can also start money/relationship worries. Its always best to talk about them to friends or your GP.

Do you feel trapped in a persistent pain cycle? If so, ask yourself these three key questions:

  • Do you do more on good days and less on bad days?
  • Are you an over achiever - doing more than you have to?
  • Are you a people pleaser? Do you have a problem saying NO when you are asked to do things?
